Black Sea Seismicity Monitoring and Early Warning systems Alignment plan elaboration

Based on the findings of each national assessment and using the discussions developed during the Regional Workshop, common needs where addressed by the two experts that worked for 2 month to define the “Black Sea Seismicity Monitoring and Early Warning Systems Alignment Plan”. The Plan was completed after the workshop by contribution from all partners.

Network Agreement

The Network Agreement document was drafted in the Inaugural Meeting – Varna,(September 2012) soon after sent to all the future Network members for study, revised and finalized during the interval September-October as was planned. But all the signatures from all the members were gathered in the 3rd period report interval.

Seismic Safety Net(work) Web Portal was developed

One of the planned modern tools for sharing information and expertise for the project was developed. It is a web portal working in four languages which will ensure the increased cooperation between relevant actors in the participating countries. The web-portal can be found at www.blacksea-esnet.eu

Black Sea Joint Seismicity Monitoring and Early Warning System Basis

This software was developed by a company contracted by the Applicant. All partners were participating in testing the software. The Black Sea Joint Seismicity Monitoring and Early Warning System Basis, developed by the Romanian partner consists from a software for PC and smart phones for keeping track of seismic events and their characteristics in real time and early warning for strong earthquakes. For the moment is getting input only from Romanian seismic events but partners are determined to link it also to the other seismic sources from partner countries.

Black Sea Safety Net(work) Communication Tool (e-group)

This e-communication tool was developed by a company sub-contracted by the IPA Lead Beneficiary and will enable direct and secure communication between the network members. All partners participate in testing the tool. www.esnet-egroup.eu/

1 Meeting for the initial discussion of the Capacity Building Start-up curricula

An initial meeting was organized and participated for discussing the curricula with 20 participants from ESNET Project partners and network member institutions.

Capacity Building Start-up curricula

The curricula course manual development was finalized by the end of fifth progress report period and constituted from 58 pages. Since the curricula course manual was elaborated as a regional capacity building material for four different countries the main approach was defined to use the curricula as a reference manual accordingly each country’s main strategic requirements and the participants’ main fields that they are coming from.

2-days training session organised for professional.

2 days training session by experts for professionals from emergency units was held by the end of 2013 and beginning of 2014 in each country. Training was based on a Curricula elaborated and discussed by the project partners in May 2013 in Eforie. The sessions were held with 20 or more people attending them in each of the 4 countries in Cahul (MD), Eforie (RO), Varna (BG) and Istanbul (TR);

The 4 movies were shot with the following titles:

  • SIMULATIONS OF EARTHQUAKES AND TSUNAMIS (10 min)
  • INTERVENTION EXERCISES IN THE EVENT OF AN EARTHQUAKE (10 min)
  • PRESENTATION OF ESNET PROJECT AND A SUMMARY OF THE 3 MOVIES ABOVE (30 MIN)

The movies present themes described above from all partners countries and were distributed to TV stations of the all four countries.

“Black sea Earthquake safety Net” Book elaborated

The book with the title “Black Sea Earthquake Safety Net(work)” ESNET, printed in 1000 copies in 3 languages and distributed in the 4 countries. The book is aimed for many categories of people such as : researchers to get them familiar with the seismicity of the Black Sea Basin, emergency units in the region to know how is organized the seismic response in each country, town halls to get them to know “Procedures and rules of the action in case of earthquakes”. The book is presenting the opinions of the authors from 6 high ranking institutions from the 4 countries involved in mitigation of seismic risk.
